The Public Servants for the People or for the Money

From cities to states, nowadays there is a clamor of officials from public to private organizations asking for support so that a certain agency's budget will not be cut or layoffs not affect the hard working public servants. Although a lot of people wants to help people with needs and disabilities, there are some unfortunately that are there for the money and of course for their own income and survival. It is just a pity sometimes on how politics sets forth on these people that really deserves the support to retain their jobs. But the fact is some of these people have been there in this environment for years thinking they are untouchables just because there are a lot of people needing help nowadays. When someone gets sick and disabled, there is the so called temporary help relief and remedy but what about with people living with a long term chronic illness for the rest of their lives. When times like these becomes rough, even such people with chronic disabilities are force to look ...

Suddenly, Affordability became a magic household name

Image
Suddenly, Affordability became a magic household name as we have been saying all this time? Can you believe that? Don't you just love politics, entertainment (even with paparazzi following now) and news when the average joe finally felt what it is to live the life of being low income, homeless, no money and broke. As I remember Madonna use to say, "It's a material world". Now do you know what we mean? I guess only when people get to experience what it is to be disabled, unemployed, low income, broke, and helpless can they know what it is to live as one. Suddenly, we cannot cope with the publication and printing of the new book release - "How do u integrate success in a small business" with ISBN no. 978-14348-07595 as also a reference guide on what happen that lead to this credit crunch, what is is to live penny to a dollar every single day.l Welcome to the life of affordability on being low income, helpless, broke and penniless. If you think it's funny i...

What is the most important survival priority for being disabled in a depression

Image
What is the most important survival priority for being disabled in a depression "H - E - A-L -T-H" If you are broke, low income and poor like the rest of thousands or even milions like us, our health is our wealth. We don't have a cent in our name, we don't have power and we don't have a "say" but we still live and survive even if we are disabled or homeless. What is the news, big companies crying out that they are cutting jobs everywhere, trying to cut losses, meet payroll but as low income people this is not something new to us except our greatest asset right now is our "HEALTH". Forgive me for stressing this over and over but this is all we got and we have to do everything to eat, buy medicines and most of all to not get sicker than we are. Affordability is almost like "GOLD" nowadays. Politicians are using it for their own advantage to win elections, business people to get profits, greed to become more greedy but all we have is o...

The Feds Bail Out - What Needs to Happen

The Feds bail out - what needs to happen Over the course of the news, online, print and TV, it keeps reiterating that a federal bail-out is at hand to save the American economy. While this news is creating a nationwide event, my question lies what type of oversight will be in placed to make sure that the small, self-employed, low income middle class is direct beneficiary of this relief. Coz, as what is going now is that everyone wants to get revenue and income in whatever means they can to survive. Thus, the said financial institutions are back to the predatory ways of service charges, non-sufficient charges and huge overdraft fees not to mentioned finance and interest charges even if you exceed $0.01 in your credit or bank account. Even though it is totally understood that they also need to survive as any business will these tactics going to be erased or waived for the common men in case the government bails them out of trouble. Somehow, as a low income, powerless member of main stree...

Ethnic Stratification and Indentifiability

In sociology, one can be a target of discrimination just because he/she can be looking as if assocaieted with an ethnic population. Hence, this is why sometimes being dark skinned can be more a target. What we need to remember is that there are cultures that are very sensitive to such issues. Using words also that classifies a person as to their income or poverty classes in a society must be done cautiously. It has been found that sometimes such people who are targeted have the conditional resources on money, entrepreneurial know-how without having degrees, and even educational credentials that can mobilize a large sector in society. There are low income and disabled groups and or ethnic groups that have the ability to move into the mainstream and they can be simple unknown people. This is why it is very important to show more human compassion and desire to help than using the absolute reverse which can be perceived as discrimination.

Bookselling as a Hobby and a Proftable Business

For a lot of independent booksellers, living each day with books is a sacred vocation. Through the years, historians and philosophers try to understand what is it that such addiction makes books for a passion. In the old days, collectors became integral selling antiquitarian, out of print and rare books then as a hobby and lifestyle. Then came the idea of why not help the community, recycle and even buy or sell books as a source of income. A lot of creative people considered such passion a daily vocation as it was the experience of going to bookstores, scouting, indexing and even packaging books as a career. When the internet and e-commerce age came, a new era was born in this industry. Not only did people got more educated why they do it, what will it take to make money, retire, raise a family and even help the community. I say this because I really commend independent booksellers as they are the pillars, examples and also some of the smartest entrepreneurs I have seen. ...

Democracy and Equality is Still Alive in America

Image
8PM Castro District of San Francisco, CA on the historic day of May 15, 2008, a day of liberation for equality and the legacy of Harvey Milk. What's suprising are the crowd merriers had a contingency of young liberals, straight men and women who believed in the sacred virtues of marriage but liberal as to what equality is all about. As any journalist, you have to deliver the facts from where the actual facts are indeed happening. Beer on brown bags, hugging and street dancing with festive music that one can just be amazed especially if you were not there during the era of the GLBT icon Harvey Milk. For some it could be artificially be emotionally exaggerating but only if you indeed get into the person's inner self would one understand what is it point in all of this. For decades, this issue has been a very sensitive subject as it relates to politics but all the issues of human rights, activism, racial and sexual discrimination, gender and marriage equality affect the psycho-soc...

Drowning in Debt News Article Revisited

Image
While browsing to my stack of Sunday newspapers, a prominent newspaper had an article about drowing in debt and giving advice on how to save. Though I sincerely believe in frugality and their intentions of giving sound financial advice, we should be reminded on how to be very careful when we at media create information to consumers. The working class especially is very ideologically incline in the power of information. What I mean is that when we focus on educating people to use let's say debit cards, let us not forget what is true frugality. Maybe, Cash spending and plastics also impact our initiatives to save the environment. Another area, I have seen which was number one was eating at home than eating out when government is trying it's best to fixed the so-called recessionary syndromes by asking people to use consumer spending. For me, it is not about spending but let us not forget marginalized sectors like the disabled and very chronically ill/senior humans. What about if i...

Affordability for Limited Income Earners, the in thing these days!

Image
Yes, thank God America is finally realizing what AFFORDABILITY is all about. Not cheap, dirt cheap, not antiques neither expensive as a piece of art deco. Gone are days that people don't understand value investing . Why does it always take a recession for us to know that it is not how much we pay for advertising to entice the consumer. It is about reputation , creating value, positive thinking and even nowadays going Green . All the discussions can be said about our mission of affordability but does it help me or you put food in our table? Or perhaps, too cheap to cost $0.01 and get what you deserve. It's not about what's in your wallet, it is the value of what you get! Long live to my fellow bloggers on creating things like the GNU org. and fighting for freedom of expression. Yours truly, Alex http://www.alexesguerra.com/

Which Presidentiable really cares for the Disabled?

One of the biggest issues in America's presidentiable race today is "HEALTH CARE". Yet, after all the blah, blah, blah about Universal Health Care, I guess my question is how far does these presidentail nominees really understand the lives of living with a disability. On the little public knowledge, I don't really know if neither one has a on-going disability as otherwise they might not be running at all. We know people like Elizabeth Edwards who is suffering from breast cancer. However, part of the politics on the Edwards campaign was focusing on what issues everyone is talking and arguing about. Perhaps, to get more limelight or spotlight or even media coverage. But just to reiterate that it was only then First Lady, Hillary Clinton who have some history for Universal Heatlh Care in America. However, changing the subject on a deeper plain, how does these candidate really understand disability and health care. It might be too specific but can be a way to find out wh...
